The Detroit Tigers had the unfortunate task of matching up against rookie phenom Paul Skenes on Wednesday afternoon. The first-year pitcher landed the start in Game 2 of a doubleheader in the Motor City, looking every bit the part of a No. 1 draft pick.
The icing on the cake? He posted his dominant performance while celebrating his 22nd birthday!
The righty took the mound with the Pirates having already dropped the opening contest, doing his part to even the series at a game apiece.
Over six innings of work, he struck out nine Detroit hitters while allowing just two Tigers to cross the plate. It was the perfect end to what’s been a celebratory week!
Girlfriend Livvy Dunne certainly enjoyed the impressive outing.
“Nothin’ like some B-day K’s,” she wrote on a clip posted to her Instagram story after the 10-2 win. Oddly enough, that social media presence was discussed prior in what was a very strange pregame interaction.

While previewing the Tigers-Pirates matchup, the Detroit broadcast crew of Carlos Pena, Trevor Thomspon, and Johnny Kane did a segment on the “Gen Z Power Couple.”
In that piece, they attempted to highlight the duo’s social media popularity, but completely missed the mark.
