The attempted murder and sexual assault trial for former MMA fighter War Machine is underway and in just the first few days, we’ve already learned some pretty frightening details about what transpired in the early morning of August 8, 2014.
War Machine, born to the name Jonathan Koppenhaver stormed into the home of his ex-girlfriend and beat the bag out of her and her current boyfriend, Corey Thomas, while they were sleeping in her bed.
Thomas suffered a broken nose, dislocated shoulder, scrapes and bruises, and bite marks on his face and arm. Christy Mack, a porn star, was beaten to within an inch of her life–suffering a broken nose, missing teeth, fractured eye socket, leg injuries and a lacerated liver.The 25-year-old Christy Mack testified against her ex on Thursday and admitted to sending an “I love you” text an hour before the attack. She also confessed to sending a topless picture to Koppenhaver right before her current boyfriend arrived at her house.
“I need that,” War Machine replied to the racy text, according to NY Post.
“It’s all yours,” Mack, whose real name is Christine Mackinday, replied.
Mack, who met Koppenhaver at a Hustler Magazine photo shoot in 2013, testified that she and the former MMA fighter broke up in May 2014, but that he still had a key to her apartment.
She claimed that during the course of their relationship, the the fights between the two often escalated to Koppenhaver choking her into unconsciousness.
“At first they weren’t that frequent — maybe once a month — but as our relationship progressed, the violence progressed,” Mack testified Wednesday.
Mack said she was afraid to report the abuse to police because Koppenhaver threatened to “send his Navy SEAL friends or Hell’s Angels” after her and her relatives.
Koppenhaver has pleaded not guilty and faces up to life in prison if convicted.
