Not much has gone right for the New Orleans Pelicans so far this year.
They’ve posted a winning percentage of just 41% on the season.
Star draft pick Zion Williamson has yet to see the floor, and his future is now in doubt following a second surgery on his injured foot. Their NBA Playoff hopes are dwindling as they currently sit in 10th place in the uber-competitive Western Conference. At 25-36, it’s safe to say that this year has been a disappointment.
Still, even the Pelicans are having fun trolling the Lakers following a 28-point win in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Sunday brought a glimpse of joy to the organization, who’s received mostly bad news surrounding previously mentioned Zion Williamson over the last week.
New Orleans blew out the Lakers on their home court yesterday to the tune of 123-95. The Pelicans took a 15-13 lead midway through the first quarter of the contest and never trailed again. It was a dominant performance from start to finish as the team tries to claw its way into contention for the West’s final playoff spot.
Los Angeles’s play was so poor that the home fans were heard booing the Lake Show’s mediocrity. Point guard Russell Westbrook took the brunt of the criticism after another awful showing. Meanwhile, LeBron James was seen arguing with fans on the sidelines and his frustration carried over into his postgame interviews.
As you can imagine, social media was not kind.
Pelicans Troll The Lakers After The Big Win
One group taking a jab at the Lakers’ poor play on Twitter was the Pelicans, themselves. After landing the 28-point victory, the New Orleans creative team updated their bio, making LA the punchline of yet another joke.
The new headline reads, “Beat the Lakers by 28 in LA.”
With the win, New Orleans is still 11 games below .500 on the season. At 25-36, they’re now two games behind LA for the ninth-place spot in the Western Conference.
But hey, any time you can take a shot at LeBron and Co. you might as well take advantage.
