EA Sports Seemingly Went Out Of Its Way To Disrespect Ohio State In The ‘College Football 25’ Trailer

Dozens of teams are featured in the first gameplay trailer for College Football 25, including Ohio State. However, some people think the folks at EA Sports have a vendetta against the Buckeyes based on the nature of the clips they appeared in.

On Friday, we got our first real look at College Football 25, which lived up to the massive amount of hype surrounding the rebooted franchise that will be coming back from the dead after a hiatus spanning more than a decade when the game comes out midway through July.

It’s hard not to be excited for what’s in store based on what we were treated to, as it’s pretty clear EA Sports put a ton of time and effort into capturing the many beloved traditions that make college football unique thanks to the inclusion of pregame rituals, rivalry trophies, and marching bands.

However, it sort of seems like whoever was responsible for putting the trailer together has something against the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The most obvious example is the clip of Michigan running back (and College Football 25 cover athlete) Donovan Edwards delivering a stiff arm to a helpless Ohio State defender around the 1:03 mark—which just so happens to come directly before the trailer cuts of a clip of Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord playing quarterback for Syracuse.

There’s also a brief shot of some Illinois players hoisting the Illibuck Trophy that’s presented to the winner of the showdown between the Fighting Illini and the Buckeyes.

Illinois hasn’t come out on top in that rivalry game since 2007, and while Ohio State has won the past eight showdowns, the trailer exists in a universe where the former walked away with a 52-42 victory.

Part of me likes to think Mitchell had a clause in the contract he signed after getting the chance to appear that instructed EA Sports to use the trailer to fire some shots at Ohio State, although I doubt that was actually the case.

There’s a chance there wasn’t really any attention paid to how the Buckeyes were portrayed, but the end result is a bit hard to ignore.
