Usually, when the New York Mets make headlines, it’s for the wrong (and often hilarious) reasons. This time, however, the opposite is true.
In a video posted to TikTok, Ramón Henriquez — a right-handed pitcher that was signed by the Mets — recently returned home to the Dominican Republic, where he was greeted by his friends and family with a joyous celebration.

Henriquez is one of 27 international prospects that the Mets have recently come to terms with, according to an announcement from the team on Monday.
“Today is an important part for our organization’s continued strategy of long-term success,” GM Billy Eppler said in a statement on Monday. “I can’t wait for these players to start their journey to the big leagues.”
“We are honored and excited to welcome these young men into the organization. This is always one of my favorite days of the year as this marks the start of these players’ professional career,” Mets VP of Amateur and International Scouting Tommy Tanous said.
The New York Mets will head into the 2023 season without the services of Carlos Correa, who ultimately signed with the Minnesota Twins after previously agreeing to $300M+ deals with both the Mets and the San Francisco Giants.
While the Mets might have missed out on Correa, they’ve certainly made plenty of moves elsewhere in the market, as they’ve spent nearly $500 million in free-agent deals this offseason on the likes of Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Diaz, Justin Verlander, Justin Verlander, Kodai Senga, Jose Quintana, Omar Narvaez, Adam Ottavino, David Roberston, and Danny Mendick.
In addition to the above deals, the Mets also have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $14.5M deal for the 2023 season with franchise first baseman Pete Alonso.
