They say ‘the shoes make the man.’ I’m actually not sure if anyone’s ever said that, but one cannot undermine the importance of a nice pair of kicks. Taking the paper out of a brand new pair of shoes and basking in that right-out-of-the-box smell makes me feel like Benny ‘The Jet’ Rodriguez prepping to outrun a gigantic English mastiff.
I just ditched my beat up basketball shoes and copped a pair of Kyrie 3’s to wear to my men’s league game last week and I legit could not stop shooting. I’ve never been so confident shooting 3-for-17 in my entire life. This felt good, because as we get older, we’re less inclined to splurge on a fresh pair. But why? Because our dreams of becoming professional athletes have shattered? Nonsense. A dope pair of sneakers is a dope pair of sneakers.
