Saturday was a very bad day for the teams that headed into the weekend at the top of the college basketball world, as seven of the squads ranked in the top ten—including the top six teams in the country—were unable to avoid falling victim to the historic spree of upsets we were treated to by the time the action came to an end.
It was also a pretty bad slate for any bettors who were counting on those squads to at least cover the moneyline, as anyone who put their faith in Gonzaga, Arizona, Auburn, Purdue *takes breath* Kansas, Kentucky, or Texas Tech saw their wallet take a hit.
However, if you had the foresight to see those upsets coming (or have access to a sports almanac like Biff in Back to the Future Part II), you would’ve made out pretty well; a $100 parlay on the eventual winners of the contests involving those six top squads would’ve netted you close to $45,000.
It doesn’t appear anyone was bold enough to make that wager, but one person walked away with a similarly impressive amount courtesy of a three-leg parlay they placed on TCU, Saint Mary’s, and Colorado.
The bettor threw down $520 on a wager that was listed at +7708, and after the Horned Frogs, Gaels, and Buffaloes came through, they took home a cool $40,602 (as well as another 20 cents for good measure).
Must be nice.
