Brian Kelly’s first year in charge of the LSU Tigers football program has been a bit of an up and down season so far.
The year began in disastrous fashion with the Tigers fighting back against Florida State in their season opener only to lose by 1 when their extra point was blocked to end the game.
They bounced back over the next few weeks, picking up wins in their easier non-conference games against New Mexico and Southern and adding impressive wins in conference against Mississippi State and at Auburn.
Then disappointment struck again. LSU welcomed Tennessee to Baton Rouge over the weekend in a game that was expected to be competitive. It was never particularly close.
Tennessee jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, going on to win the game 40-13.
In the aftermath of that loss, ESPN’s Stephen A Smith has given a troubling report about how people around the program are feeling about Kelly so far.
Stephen A Smith gives troubling report about Brian Kelly I am not hearing anything good about Brian Kelly. I’ve interviewed him a few times in the past. I know he had a stellar record at Notre Dame. I like him. They looked awful at LSU last week. Awful. Tennessee just rolled over them, 40-13.
I’m hearing the players ain’t fond of him, the administration ain’t fond of him, the fans ain’t fond of him, the town ain’t fond of him.

It’s kind of surprising to hear that anybody is telling Stephen A that sentiment is already turning against Brian Kelly at LSU. While the start of the season hasn’t been perfect, Kelly still has the tigers sitting at 4-2 so far despite taking over a program that wasn’t in the best situation.
They finished last year 6-7 and had major questions at quarterback. Even adding Jayden Daniels didn’t entirely answer those questions. With games left against Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M, Kelly still has plenty of chances to change the perception of this season before it’s over.
