11 teams of professional skateboarders recently traveled down to The Big Easy and teamed up with Red Bull to takeover an abandoned airport terminal. It is as if Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater came to exist in real life, which is epic.
The annual Red Bull Terminal Takeover continues to produce some of the coolest content in action sports!
This year’s event featured teams from Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, Wisconsin and even Japan. They all met up on the Bayou to rip up the old New Orleans airport. From baggage claim, to escalators and empty desks, nothing was off-limits.
For example, where a luggage rack might look like a luggage rack to the common eye, it looks different to a skateboarder who is looking to shred.
Each team is made up of four or five skaters and one cameraperson. They descended upon the old MSY Airport Terminal from April 18-20 for the video game-like session and spent the last few weeks cutting their footage into a short edit.
The best video will be chosen by a public vote. The winning team will receive $5,000 in prize money.
Each of the videos are now available on Red Bull’s website and they all bring a very different style to the table. Some are laid back and loose. Others are more serious in nature. They’re all as sick as they sound!
Regardless of the approach, every single video is reminiscent of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in the best way. It is so cool to watch a mundane place like an airport become an action sports playground.
After watching all 11 videos, fans of the event can vote for the edit that they believe deserves to win the prize money. You can vote for one team per day through May 27.
The skate crews include:
- Nashville, TN
- Pensacola, FL
- Fairfax, VA
- Baton Rouge, LA
- Birmingham, AL
- New Orleans, LA
- Tupelo, MS
- Katy, TX
- Durham, NC
- Milwaukee, WI
- Aichi, Japan
Red Bull’s Terminal Takeover is just as cool today as it was in years prior and these hard-working teams deserve your support! Getting to vote on your favorite is just an added bonus to the fun.
