The Miami Heat Set An Unbreakable NBA Record Tuesday Night

The Miami Heat are the best free throw shooting team in the NBA, at over 82%. That’s a pretty incredible number to begin with, but what they did on Tuesday night is even more impressive.

Even if you were a great shooter growing up, imagine walking into an empty gym and making 10 free throws in a row.

How about, 20 or 30?

For the Miami Heat last night, it was an incredible 40 foul shots without a miss. Their 40-40 performance set an NBA record for most team foul shots made in a game without a miss, and they needed all of them, as they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-111.

Wow. 40 foul shots in a row in an NBA game by different players seems impossible.

Here are some more details from an ESPN article on the achievement.

They set an NBA record by making all 40 of their free throws, the last of those coming on Butler’s three-point play with 12.9 seconds left, and rallied in the final moments to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 112-111.

Miami topped the 39-for-39 effort by Utah against Portland on Dec. 7, 1982.

“It’s just a normal Tuesday night for the Miami Heat,” coach Erik Spoelstra said.

“I think this is when we feel most alive, when everything just happens and when all of our competitive juices get out there. That’s the team we all can relate to. That’s the team I like.”

“Credit them, first of all, for that,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. “That’s impressive.”

The Heat move to 22-20 on the season.
