Drew Brees has been in the rumor mill for a while as he’s been searching for a broadcasting job since retiring from the NFL. Now, it sounds like the future Hall of Famer has a new gig, but not in broadcasting.
Instead, it sounds like Brees will be taking on a coaching role at his former school, Purdue University.
According to Front Office Sports, the Boilermakers have named Drew Brees an interim assistant coach. Purdue announced on Tuesday that Ryan Walters is the new head coach of the football program. So, while the team transitions to a new leader, Brees is being brought in to help “coach in the Citrus Bowl against LSU, and can recruit via an NCAA waiver.”

This seems like a rather smart hire for Purdue. The fact he can recruit is massive for the Boilermakers. If you’re a high school quarterback, why wouldn’t you want to play for Drew Brees? After seeing how Deion Sanders pull big-name recruits to Colorado, we’re sure Brees could do the same as well.
Additionally, Brees has a chance to showcase his coaching prowess.
Although he’s been searching for a broadcasting gig, maybe he should make coaching his next long-term career move instead. Especially at the college level. Here is Brees’ statement on taking on the interim assistant coach role at Purdue, per Chris Vannini.

We’ll see how it plays out, but overall, Purdue fans should be over the moon to have Drew Brees on the coaching staff.
