Legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban stunned the sports world in January when he announced his retirement.
Less than six months later, Saban is a candidate to take his rightful place in the College Football Hall of Fame on an absolutely loaded ballot.
The seven-time national championship-winning coach leads a list of names that includes 77 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision.
The ballot also features an additional 101 players and 34 coaches from the divisional ranks.

Saban heads a list of coaches that also includes Urban Meyer, Larry Coker and Tommy Tuberville, among others.
As for his resume? We’d say it’s pretty stout. The National Football Foundation listed the following accolades:
“Boasts the most national championships in FBS history, winning four BCS titles and three CFP championships during his career…First coach in history to win a national title with two different FBS schools (LSU, Alabama) since the inception of the AP Poll in 1936 and finished career with the sixth-most wins (292) all-time in FBS history…Led Bama to a top 10 final ranking in 16-consecutive seasons, including 12 top five finishes, and won 11 conference titles and 19 bowl games overall.”
Other big names on the ballot include Aaron Donald, Marshawn Lynch Michael Vick, Manti Te’o, Sean Taylor, Michael Oher, Ryan Leaf, Peter Warrick, Mark Ingram and a host of others.
“It’s an enormous honor to just be on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot considering more than 5.7 million people have played college football and only 1,093 players have been inducted,” NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell said in a press release. “The Hall’s requirement of being a First-Team All-American creates a much smaller pool of about 1,500 individuals who are even eligible. Being in today’s elite group means an individual is truly among the greatest to have ever played the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class early next year.”
