Former Texas A&M starter Haynes King has been named QB1 at Georgia Tech ahead of the team’s season opener. The Yellow Jackets kick off the year against ACC rival Louisville in Week 1.

The program will rely on its new passer to reverse the subpar play seen over the last few years.Georgia Tech has failed to record a winning season since moving on from head coach Paul Johnson. Geoff Collins failed to find success in his four years at the helm, going just 10-28 in Atlanta.
In his defense, he was attempting to transition the offense from the triple option. Still, the administration had seen enough of his turnaround attempts, firing him after just four games in 2022.
Brent Key came in to replace Collins, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 4-4 finish. He’ll now take over for his first full season at the helm.
Key landed good news when Aggies QB Haynes King announced his intention to transfer to GT. King, a former starter in College Station, appeared in eight games with Texas A&M.
The signal caller threw 1,579 yards and 10 scores under Jimbo Fisher.
Now, he’ll look to make an impact in Atlanta, and he seems to be off to a solid start. The passer was named QB1 on Tuesday.

It appears that King will have every opportunity to keep that starting role based on his head coach’s most recent comments.
Key said he is not putting Haynes King on a short leash either, he said both Pyron and King have to be prepared and they can win with both players, but King is the QB1 right now.
