The UCONN basketball team wasn’t welcomed to Las Vegas in the most inviting way possible this week. In fact, the squad was forced to relocate upon arriving to its hotel on Tuesday.
Poor room conditions were the cause, leading the Huskies to find new room and board just days before their upcoming March Madness matchup against Arkansas. Fans have been quick to comment on the switch.
The NCAA is responsible for making hotel arrangements for championship tournaments. Connecticut currently finds itself in the midst of a run in the Big Dance as they prep for a Sweet Sixteen contest versus the Razorbacks.
That meeting will be held in Las Vegas, and UCONN players got a first-hand glimpse into why they call it “Sin City.”
The previous occupants of the rooms apparently enjoyed themselves a bit too much as they completely trashed the place on their vacation stay. CT Insider reports that there was “dirt, vomit … and worse,” in the hotel.
The NCAA quickly moved the team to a “nearby, high-level hotel,” but that didn’t stop fans from chiming in on the poor conditions. Here’s what the college basketball world was saying online.
It appears the Luxor hotel was the location of the initial stay.

The room conditions come as no surprise to some that have stayed at the hotel in the past.
If they would have asked anyone from Las Vegas about the Luxor…they would have been told to stay clear. Cheap dump!

While many sided with the Huskies, others were not as sympathetic.
Oh, UCONN is fancy huh?
Too good to stay at a 4 star hotel on the strip. Must be nice. Hope they find softer beds and more ply toilet paper. #jokes

UCONN athletic director responded to the switch, saying, “It’s not something we want to make a big deal out of. Everything worked out fine.”
Still, it’s an unnecessary distraction ahead of the team’s most important game of the season.
