Mike Vrabel is not afraid to call out his players when they don’t play up to the standard he expects. Even if that means that he has to do so while live on television.
Mike Vrabel, 48, is in his sixth season as head coach of the Tennessee Titans. His team finished atop the AFC South in 2020 and 2021 after reaching the AFC Championship in 2019, but fell to 7-10 last season.
With a disappointing season behind them, Vrabel hopes that the Titans will be able to turn things around after starting 1-2 in 2023. It starts with effort.
Every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. local time, The Mike Vrabel Show airs live on ABC in Nashville and other nearby Volunteer State television markets. He and his co-host Mike Keith go over the game from the Sunday prior and preview the upcoming matchup.
Part of that includes film breakdown.
While going through the tape earlier this week, Vrabel discovered something that he did not like from defensive tackle Teair Tart. He didn’t like his laziness during a loose ball play.
A fumble during Tennessee’s game against Cincinnati laid on the ground far too long before a defensive back came down from the second level to make the recovery. Meanwhile, Tart stood out of the play away from the ball and watched it all unfold.
Vrabel was displeased. He proceeded to lay into Tart on the air and even circled him for emphasis.
It was a very funny exchange as Keith tried to deflect from the negativity toward Tart and move on. Vrabel wasn’t quite ready to let it go.
Tart did not record a tackle in last weekend’s win over the Bengals. Not hustling to the ball certainly did not help his case and Vrabel was not shy in letting the viewers at home know that he does not approve of how his big nose tackle played.
