Welcome back to another edition of Tasty Tune Tuesday! It has been 14 days since our last playlist, but I felt disingenuous by trying to put together 10 songs that didn’t really get the juices pumping. As the summer quickly closes in, I’m already trying to be outside as much as I can. My music moves alongside that notion.
On the third day of every week, I’ll drop ten songs that tickle my eardrums. Variety of tracks will range from hip hop/rap, EDM, country, singer/songwriter, Americana, R&B and everything in between— something for everyone depending on what I’m jamming that week.Despite all of the new music that dropped this week, I’ve been on some of my deeper digs that need to have more ears on them. Here’s the tracklist for the 21st edition:
Track No. 1: Long Way — SG ALI
Able to speak for one of Chicago’s most notorious and dangerous neighborhoods, you can hear SG ALI’s raw emotion in her music. As an up-and-comer, she falls somewhere between Deja Loaf and Lil Durk.
Track No. 2: Kilby Girl — The Backseat Lovers
I cannot get enough of The Backseat Lovers right now. It’s really hard to standout in the indie, lo-fi, surf rock sphere but they do a great job. Lead vocalist Joshua Harmon has an awesome voice that fits really well with the sharp-witted collection of candid lyricism and rhythm. The guitar solo will make you want to get up and jump around the room.
Track No. 3: Fazers — King Geedorah
MF DOOM produced, wrote, recorded, arranged, mixed and mastered this entire album under the alias “King Geedorah.” This is the best track.
Track No. 4: Don’t Let Me Down (Poolside Remix) — Milky Chance, Jack Johnson, Poolside
Jack Johnson and Milky Chance teaming up together will never not be awesome. Poolside throws his spin on the ebullient melody and eclectic instrumentation.
Track No. 5: Light On — Maggie Rogers
This is one of Maggie Rogers’ two most popular tracks, so you have probably heard it whether you know it or not. It’s been heavy in my mix recently.
Track No. 6: Worlds to Run — Busdriver, Milo, Anderson .Paak
Busdriver is an underground rapper from Los Angeles who has been able to expand out beyond the local scene. His rapid-fire nasal delivery and clever lyrics sounds like something you might here at a spoken-word poetry slam set to music (which is kinda what rap is anyway, right?). Milo ties the production together, Anderson .Paak is always a joy and the horns at the end are just a delightful treat.
Track No. 7: Kind Reminder — Próxima Parada
Próxima Parada is California true and true. Straight out of San Luis Obispo, their soulful melodies are carried by great lead vocals and a groovy, happy vibe.
Track No. 8: Never Tear Us Apart — The Teskey Brothers
Take soul, blues, southern rock, Americana, psychedelia and gospel, and mix them all together in a big pot. That is where you will find the Teskey Brothers. They can really wail, or they can break it all the way down and take you to church. Or both.
Track No. 9: Make Luv — Jay Pryor
I like to party… everybody does!
Track No. 10: Sure Thing — St. Germain
An old head at a pool hall put me on to this one and it’s so groovy.
Track No. 420: Rolling Thunder — Action Bronson
This is my all-time favorite rotation song and that will never change. Happy Holidaze.
