‘King Of Kong’ Billy Mitchell Officially Stripped Of ‘Donkey Kong’ Titles Because He Cheated

Billy Mitchell was once the king of Kong and he is now just a mere mortal in the world of Donkey Kong. Mitchell was the villain (or hero) in The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, a 2007 documentary about the world of competitive gaming. However, now Billy has been officially stripped of his Donkey Kong titles because he cheated.

On the bright side, now Billy can focus more on his family’s restaurant and line of hot sauces.

In February, Billy was accused of cheating to win several titles including the 1981 arcade video game Donkey Kong. Jeremy “Xelnia” Young, the moderator of Donkey Kong Forum (DKF), alleged that he had evidence that Mitchell used an arcade cabinet emulator to attain high scores.

This week, Twin Galaxies, an organization that recognizes world records in gaming, stripped Mitchell’s Donkey Kong high scores from their leaderboards and notified the Guinness World Records that they had stripped Billy of his titles. Twin Galaxies said that Mitchell’s DK high scores were “not produced by the direct feed output of an original unmodified Donkey Kong Arcade PCB.”
