Isaiah Rodgers Reportedly Won A $1000 Prop Bet On One Of His Indianapolis Colts Teammates

During this year’s NFL offseason, the league’s gambling policy has ended up in the news more than ever before.

Last year, Calvin Ridley became the highest-profile player to ever receive a suspension as a result of the league’s gambling policy, but this year there have been a surprising number of players suspended for placing bets.

Earlier in the offseason, the Detroit Lions were hit hard by the policy with 2 players suspended indefinitely and 2 more suspended for 6 games, with one of the 6-game suspension going to promising receiver Jameson Williams.

Today, the league announced 4 more suspension they were handing down as a result of this policy. 3 of those new suspensions were indefinite and 2 of them were given to players from the Indianapolis Colts.

Those 2 were defensive lineman Rashod Berry and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.

While Berry was projected to be fighting for a job with the Colts, Rodgers was expected to be an important part of their defense after making 9 starts last season.

Now they are both without jobs as the Indianapolis Colts released the two of them.

What Rodgers received his suspension for was also revealed today.

According to ESPN’s David Purdum, Isaiah Rodgers placed a $1000 wager on the over/under for one of his teammates’ rushing yard totals.

The report didn’t include which teammate the bet was made on or in what game, but did mention that it was a winning bet.

This is about as bad as it gets from a gambling policy violation perspective. Not only did he bet on an NFL game, but he bet on his own teammate and probably had some inside information on that teammate’s expected usage for the week.

To make it even worse, the bet probably had odds around -110, which means he risked his NFL for a payout of a little over $900.

That’s not exactly a smart gamble.

Now he’ll wait to see how long it takes for the league to reinstate him for what may be the worst violation of the policy yet.
