81-Year-Old ‘Serial Slingshot Shooter’ Arrested After Allegedly Terrorizing California Neighborhood For A Decade

Slingshots are pretty low on the list of weapons most people are worried about being targeted by, but residents of a California neighborhood who spent close to a decade dealing with a mysterious menace are probably breathing a sigh of relief now that police have arrested an 81-year-old man believed to be behind a string of incidents.

Most people are probably familiar with the biblical giant who serves as a textbook example of the damage a certain type of slingshot can do in the right hands.

However, you’d be hard-pressed to find many modern situations where people are constantly keeping their heads on a swivel for the rubbery weapons I primarily associate with underage rascals who got their kicks targeting the windows of an abandoned textile factory before heading to a soda fountain to buy some comic books and penny candy.

With that said, The New York Times reports there’s apparently one very notable exception to that rule thanks to the reign of terror that’s gripped people who live on North Enid Avenue in Azusa, California over the course of an approximately 10-year period where they had to routinely dodge the metal ball bearings that routinely broke windshields and windows in the neighborhood.

Police received enough calls to conduct an investigation into the matter and eventually gathered enough evidence to execute a search warrant last Thursday at the home of Prince Raymond King, an 81-year-old man who was arrested after a slingshot and a sizeable collection of ball bearings were found inside his house.

A representative for the Azusa Police Department said it could not determine any motive aside from “malicious mischief.” King appeared in court on Tuesday and pled not guilty to multiple counts of vandalism and was released under the condition he stays out of the neighborhood he’s been accused of using as a slingshot hunting ground prior to another hearing scheduled for June 17th.
