Patrick Mahomes Distanced Self From Harrison Butker, Says He Never Talks To Him: ‘I Sit Next To Him And Don’t Say One Word’

A clip from earlier this year of Patrick Mahomes detailing how he never speaks with Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is going viral in the wake of Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College in Kansas.

While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on February 14, just three days after the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, Mahomes discussed his relationship with Butker.

Despite the fact that the pair sit next to each other in team meetings, Mahomes says he “doesn’t say one word to him.”

“I don’t talk to Harrison all year long, man, I just let him do his thing,” the three-time Super Bowl champion told McAfee and his cohorts. “We sit right beside each other in the team meeting and I don’t say one word to him — only before the season and after the season, that’s the only time I talk to him.”

Given that Butker’s views about women and the LGBTQ community are now becoming more publicly known, the clip of Mahomes vehemently rejecting any sort of relationship with Butker is being taken in an entirely new context.

While speaking to the 2024 graduates at Benedictine College, Butker touched on many conservative topics such as his pro-life beliefs, the role of women and society, and the “sin” of Pride Month. His comments about women have gained particular traction as Butler told the women in the room that their pursuit of careers and passions over being a “homemaker” is a “diabolical lie.”

“I want to speak directly to you [women] briefly because I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said.

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world… embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”

Despite the attention his speech is receiving, both the Kansas City Chiefs and Butker have yet to publicly address the growing controversy.
