The football world learned today that Deshaun Watson would no longer be facing a criminal investigation.
With that news the expectation is that interest should quickly begin developing in a trade for Watson.There have already been reports in the last few days that the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers could all be potential suitors for Watson’s services. Today, a surprising name was added to that list.
According to Cleveland Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns have been doing their homework on Watson and intend to keep doing so.

This is an unexpected development as the Browns were expected to be led by Baker Mayfield for another season. However, it is a move that could make a lot of sense for them.
Deshaun Watson would absolutely be an upgrade over Baker Mayfield and they have a defense and running game that they must believe could make a deep playoff run with the right QB. There are just a couple of things that would stand in the way (besides convincing the Texans to make a deal).
Watson is still facing civil allegations and we don’t know what if any punishment he could be facing from the NFL. Watson has a no-trade clause, which will allow him to choose where he wants to go. The Browns aren’t necessarily the most appealing destination for Watson.
First of all, it’s Cleveland. Second, they are a run-first offense and have a very weak wide receiver group even. They would have to add somebody to play alongside Jarvis Landry if they hope to entice Watson.
Watson going to the Browns would be an interesting development, but it would certainly be surprising to see him choose Cleveland as his next team.
