The college football season is right around the corner and the Ohio State Buckeyes head coach, Ryan Day, has finally named a starting quarterback.
However, there’s a bit of a catch to it.
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Ohio State has named Kyle McCord the starting quarterback for their Week 1 game against Indiana.

But it sounds like Ryan Day loves the athleticism he sees from Devin Brown. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports that “Devin Brown is expected to also play in the game.”

With that said, it sounds like Ohio State might be utilizing a dual-QB system to begin the 2023 campaign.
The Buckeyes could use the first portion of the season to figure out the long-term starter, per The Athletic.
“Though McCord will start Saturday, Day didn’t sound like a coach who has clearly settled on one quarterback. The Buckeyes should have time to let the quarterback situation play out further, as they’ll be heavy favorites in the first three games against Indiana, Youngstown State, and Western Kentucky.”
It’s been a contested QB battle for Ohio State. Both McCord and Brown show promise as each of them are top-50 recruits.
McCord has proven to be a more accurate passer who has the potential to dice up opposing defenses. Meanwhile, Brown shows incredible athleticism and serves as a dual-threat quarterback.
The Buckeyes have the roster and the talent to take their time with naming a long-term starter. Especially considering they should be able to defeat their first three opponents with relative ease.
So, Kyle McCord is the starter for now, but Devin Brown is going to get his fair share of reps to prove himself.
