A University of Texas football mom is speaking out against Alabama fans after a negative experience in Tuscaloosa on Saturday that appeared to involve racist and homophobic remarks toward her son. Video from near the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium appeared to back up some of her claims.
Quintrevion ‘Tre’ Wisner is a freshman running back for the Longhorns.
He wears No. 26 and was featured in a video that surfaced on social media on Sunday evening. In the video, Wisner and a group of his college football teammates are dancing on the sideline amid the dominant win over the Crimson Tide. Meanwhile, a group of fans — potentially students — can be heard yelling in their direction.
One particular voice stands out among the rest. He tells the players, who are Black, to “go back to the projects” and repeatedly calls them a disparaging homophobic term.
Wisner looks over toward the crowd in the video as his teammates dance around him in a taunting manner, completely unfazed. The fan continues to yell.
Disgusting footage from the Texas-Bama game. Racist Bama students yelling racist remarks to the Texas players. According to Wisner’s mother, Angie, the poor behavior was not limited to the actions seen in the video. She was extremely discouraged by what she heard and saw throughout the evening.
The fact my son down there and they saying go back to the projects really just saddens my heart that as his mother no matter how old he had to listen to that!
Love you Son!
But the parents went through this all night! Beer cans thrown at us, water bottles, spit! Disgrace
— Angie Wisner,
She continued on to explain her decision to speak out.
People making it about what was said definitely not! Whether racist or homophobic, I was demonstrating the disrespect because what the parents in the stand went through was definitely Disrespectful and Disgraceful!
All those boys are on a full scholarship at a wonderful school!— Angie Wisner (@WisnerAngie)
Although there are bad apples in every bunch, what was said by the Alabama fan is unacceptable on any level. It reflects poorly on the university and its fanbase. The same can be said for any projectiles, including spit, that were directed at the parents.
Disgraceful and disrespectful are the correct adjectives.
