Colorado stunned the football world when they hired Deion Sanders back in December as their head coach. The Pro Football Hall of Famer, Florida State legend, and one of the best players to ever play football was given the reins to a program that had been of the best in the West for decades but had fallen on hard times the last 20 years.
Since, he’s recruited well, and injected new life into a program that was probably the worst in the Power 5 a year ago. Their spring game set an attendance record, and season ticket sales sold out for the first time in a long time in Boulder.
Expectations are probably too high for this year for Deion Sanders in his team. After all, this was a terrible football team last year and still should be pretty bad on both lines. But, the long-term prognosis is as bright as it’s been since Bill McCartney was roaming the sidelines in the 1990s.
This week, Deion Sanders made a move that will give him a veteran head coach to lean on this season, as he’s bringing on former Cleveland Browns and New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur.
Veteran NFL Coach Pat Shurmur has been on Campus at Colorado this week, per source.
He is expected to join the staff as an analyst moving forward.
Shurmur brings over 20 years of NFL coaching experience and was the AP NFL Assistant Coach of The Year in 2017.

Was Pat Shurmur a good NFL Head Coach? No, not at all. He was 19-46 in four seasons as an NFL head coach. But, he does have extensive play calling experience with several NFL teams, most recently in Denver in 2020 and 2021. That’s something he can help Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Sean Lewis, whose hire was a big coup for Deion Sanders, with.
Colorado doesn’t open the season with a cupcake, though. They open the season on the road against defending national runner-up TCU, and play rival Nebraska in week two.
