Ohio State fans, you should know that I am a Georgia fan. I want Georgia to win. That said, I am also a Georgia fan that has seen too many losses to South Carolina that should not have happened. I now look at all the ways for why UGA will lose. If they manage to overcome themselves, I am relieved.

The Buckeyes should feel good knowing that Ohio State can move the ball through the air. Given adequate time — not anything special — by the offensive line, CJ Stroud will have open receivers. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka could both have big games. The UGA pass rush is above average, so Stroud will have to move his feet, but behind that, Georgia is suspect.

Also, understand this: Georgia was not losing this game because of the run.

TreVeyon Henderson is a namebrand loss but the run game was not going to be a factor.  Henderson or whatever combination is worked in, will not matter. Ohio State coaches and fans have to remain committed to the two- or three-yard gains so that the Dawgs defensive line still has to respect it. That is all. If Georgia has to still play the run first — which it will stop — that commitment will open up more things through the air. Stay the course and know that 20 carries and 62 yards is what the running back — no matter who — was getting.

Win in the air; don’t let UGA just rush the passer all game.

Defensively, Ohio State will be the most talented group Georgia has faced this year. Athlete for athlete, Ohio State would be favorably compared to any of the teams on the Georgia schedule. However, it is easily in the Top 3 of ‘best’ by most any metric and Georgia has been slowed by plenty. By considerably worse.

Teams like Georgia Tech held UGA to 10 in the first half. Kentucky held it to 9 in the first, and 16 for the game. It was 17-12 against Mississippi State at half. Missouri led 16-6 at the break before losing 26-22.

Georgia is not an elite offense.

Its offensive line is probably the fourth-best that Ohio State has seen this year. The Michigan offensive line is a lap ahead of Georgia’s. Stetson Bennett is also not elite. He is a gamer. He is a good quarterback, but he is not great. Really, Bennett is just another Big Ten quarterback. He just happens to be at Georgia. Ohio State can also handle an athletic tight end. Brock Bowers is elite, but he is not as unique in that conference as in the SEC. The Georgia receivers are also just good, not great. This is a group that can be slowed for a full game.

Now, obviously, Ohio State was gashed by Michigan. Anyone who watched and not just saw the final, knows there were multiple missed assignments that led to big plays. That is not the norm for Ohio State. Now, the defense will be in a prove-it mode. That is a good spot to be in.

You cannot bet on the Buckeye’s to win this game but you can sign up today with BetMGM to get your free $200 for when sports betting goes live in time for the title game!
