This game is going to look a lot more like a flashback SEC game, circa 2000-2010. It is not simply the sheer amount of NFL talent that both teams possess, but the style of play that will be on display.
Do not expect modern-Alabama/K-State or Michigan/TCU-type action. Both teams in the Peach Bowl are going to struggle to move the ball. Each defense holds the advantage when it is on the field. It gives me all the Florida-LSU-Bama “16-13 is a good game” flashbacks that I can handle.
Ohio State was not going to run the ball whether TreVeyon Henderson was playing or not. He is not, so it is a loss of an elite talent, but the results are going to be the same. Ohio State can commit to keeping Georgia honest, however. If the Buckeye’s can keep its quarterback (CJ Stroud or otherwise) off his back, then there is the chance to the move the ball. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egubka can do work against the Georgia secondary. The drives will have to be marches but there is a path to the scoreboard.
Georgia is going to be hard pressed to move the ball.
Ohio State is going to be the most talented team that Georgia has played this year. It is important to state that because Georgia has been slowed multiple times.
By multiple teams. That are all vastly inferior to Ohio State. It was in a 10-7 fight at halftime. . . against Georgia Tech. The week before Georgia had won an unimpressive 16-6 slugfest, against a Kentucky team that could not move the ball at all. Prior to that was a 17-12 game at the break against Mississippi State. Georgia also trailed Missouri 16-6 at halftime before winning, 26-22. That was one game after it looked dreadful at home against Kent State.
Ohio State does not need to do anything special to slow Georgia. It just has to be able to do it for a full game. Michigan hit on a few blown assignment to create big plays — which if you are a Dawg fan you have to hope for — but that was not the norm this year against Ohio State.
Georgia is very similar to an all-star Big Ten team, more than an explosive SEC team of recent years. It is the type of team that Ohio State can beat, if everything goes its way.
It is just hard for me to bet on everything going your way. Take Georgia on the moneyline and get an additional $200 from when a TD is scored! You can grab some small value on Ohio State and feel like you have a chance, too.
