Houston Texans rookie CJ Stroud had a sensational rookie campaign that saw him leapfrog into many people’s lists of the top-five quarterbacks in the league. After all, he showed every trait necessary to be a top-five quarterback for years to come.
But, who does CJ Stroud think makes up the league’s top-five signal-callers?

That is quite a list, and I’m sure many, if not most, disagree with it. The biggest sticking point is surely Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, arguably the most controversial quarterback in the league when it comes to things that happen on the field.
Make no mistake, Dak Prescott had a great season last year for the Dallas Cowboys. The Mississippi State product threw for a career-high 4,516 yards to go along with 36 touchdowns and 9 interceptions as Dallas won the NFC North.
But, the criticism surrounding Dak Prescott has always boiled down to his play in the playoffs. And, his start against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Round was dismal. Prescott threw two backbreaking pick-sixes as the Cowboys got blown out at home, 48-32, in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score suggests.
The Cowboys still haven’t been to the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season. Prescott has quarterbacked multiple teams that had the talent to advance that far, but didn’t. That’s why plenty of people would not have him in the top-ten, and certainly not in the top-five.
CJ Stroud ranking himself 3rd is probably fine, but Josh Allen not being on the list is a pretty huge snub. I think the Bills quarterback is likely the second-best quarterback in the league behind Patrick Mahomes. I’d venture to guess that every single general manager in the league would rather have Josh Allen than Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott.
That being said, all of these lists are absolutely meaningless. We’re just a few months away from having new data to influence these kinds of lists when the 2024 NFL season kicks off.
