On Tuesday, a mysterious large iron sphere washed up on a beach in Japan and authorities there have admitted that they have no idea what it is.
According to The Guardian, a local woman spotted the giant iron ball on the shore while she was out for a walk on Enshu beach in the city of Hamamatsu.
The presence of the mysterious sphere resulted in the beach being closed, a 200 meter radius area being cordoned off and explosives experts being called in to inspect it.
The sphere, which measures around 5 feet in diameter, was examined by experts using X-ray technology. They discovered that the ball’s interior is hollow. There are also two raised handles on the sphere’s surface.
Photographs of the object were reportedly sent to the Japanese self-defense forces and coast guard for further examination.
While the giant iron ball was deemed to not be a threat, local authorities have not been able to identify what the object is.
The internet, however, has more than a few guesses. Most of them, unsurprisingly, were not very helpful

Interestingly, one man told local media outlet NHK that the ball has “been there for a month” and that he “tried to push it, but it wouldn’t budge.”
