Phil Hellmuth Wins US Poker Open Event #5 By Hitting A Straight Flush On Final Hand

Poker legend Phil Hellmuth has been on a hot streak at the 2023 US Poker Open.

After taking a few months away from tournament poker, Phil came into the US Poker Open and finished #12th in event #3. He followed that up with a win in the $10K buy-in Event #5 for $211,200 over Jeremy Ausmus who would take home $149,600 for 2nd.

Phil Hellmuth winning poker tournaments is nothing new. He’s 21st on the all-time poker money list and holds the World Series of Poker record for most titles won with 16 bracelets.

But Hellmuth winning a high-profile poker tourney by hitting a straight flush on the final hand? I’m not sure that has ever happened until the PokerGo USPO event #5:

As of today, we are exactly two months away from the start of the 2023 World Series of Poker. Phil Hellmuth is clearly heating up.

There are 10 events in PokerGo’s 2023 US Poker Open left to play. Event #7 is a 15,000 No-Limit Hold’em event. Events #8 and #9 are $25K buy-in No-Limit Hold’em. And it will culminate with event #10: $50,000 No-Limit Hold’em.

Winning the US Poker Open event #5 was a big moment for Phil. It was his first title on the PokerGo Tour.

After the win, Hellmuth hopped in another tournament and spoke with WorldPokerTour‘s Tim Fiorvani about how he was feeling. He said:

“Really tired. Yu know, I couldn’t decide what to do in between. Do I nap? Or do I play through? Last night, I played through, and we played till 1:30 a.m. I was so tired, I fell asleep at 2:30, and I never fall asleep before 6 or 7 a.m. So [after the quick final table], I thought, ‘Well, if I take a 20-minute, 30-minute nap before the PLO, I might not be able to fall asleep quickly if I make it till 1:30 in the morning again. Right now, I’m wishing I had that nap, but this 20-minute break outside should help me.”

No rest for the weary.
