Dion Dawkins was a must-retain player for the Buffalo Bills as headed in. The left tackle has grown into one of the league’s best at the position, and is a great protector of Josh Allen’s blindside.

But, with just one year left on his contract, it was now-or-never to get an extension done for Dawkins.

In a huge turn of events, Dion Dawkins struck fear in the hearts of Bills fans on Monday before eventually re-upping with team on a huge deal.

Monday marks the first day that NFL teams can talk to pending free agents from other teams, so the NFL news is flying. While Dawkins doesn’t fit that criteria, Bills fans were still waiting to see if they could get an extension done. If not, the franchise likely would have had to explore trading the player instead of potentially getting nothing or having to use the tag on him next season.

But, their hearts sank when Dion Dawkins posted this to his social media.

Honestly, that seems like a perfectly legit announcement that he is leaving the Buffalo Bills after being unable to come to an agreement on an extension.

But, that’s not what’s happening! Shortly after, Dion Dawkins posted that he would instead be staying in Buffalo.

Sure enough, he is. The two sides came to an agreement on an extension that will keep him there through 2027. The deal is a 3-year $60.5 million expansion.

That’s a pretty funny bit by Dion Dawkins, all things considered. I don’t think Bills fans can hold it against him too much, considering he only held their hopes hostage for a short time.
