The MLB season is still in the early portion of the year, but talks about the playoffs are already happening.
Especially for the Los Angeles Angels, as their race for contention could depict what’s in store for Shohei Ohtani.
According to Jeff Passan, the Angels very well could end up trading Ohtani if they fall out of the playoff race before the trade deadline.

LA finds itself in a weird spot. The team has failed to capitalize on having both Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout on the same roster. It feels like they always find a way to lose.
Additionally, giving up a player like Ohtani is insane. Based on Passan’s comments, he’s likely going to fetch a record-breaking deal once he hits free agency.
Plenty of teams are going to be interested. On top of that, it’s kind of difficult to see Shohei Ohtani remain with the Angels beyond this season.
Having said that, Los Angeles may want to consider trading him away before the deadline, regardless if they’re in playoff contention or not.
The franchise would receive a haul of players and prospects, which is direly needed.
Of course, these trade rumors are just that. Rumors. Nothing is set in stone. However, this is an extremely realistic scenario that could play out.
MLB fans should keep an eye on the Angels throughout the season, especially with these Shohei Ohtani rumors already circulating.
