This opening week matchup features a matchup between two teams with a completely different outlook on this season.

On one hand, the visiting Houston Texans are mainly focused on the future, and developing their young stars. They selected their franchise QB CJ Stroud 2nd overall, before trading up for the 3rd overall pick as well to select edge rusher Will Anderson. The Texans are hoping that these two will lead to many wins in the future, while the host team, Baltimore Ravens, are focused on winning now. They re-signed their former MVP QB Lamar Jackson to a lucrative 5-year extension this summer, and finally gave him weapons on offense, signing WR Odell Beckham Jr. and drafting WR Zay Flowers with their first-round selection. The Ravens have been derailed by injuries in the past few seasons, so they are hoping they can manage to keep their stars on the field this year to finally make a legit run in the AFC.

For the Houston Texans, this will be the very first game of what they hope will become a successful era, with QB CJ Stroud and first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans. No one expects the Texans to compete this season, as they finished 2nd to last in the entire league last season. The main keys for this team are just to develop their young QB, and develop their potential game-changing pass rusher, Will Anderson, who they drafted just one pick after Stroud. Demeco Ryans has been a surging coaching candidate the last few years following his work as the 49ers DC, and he will finally have his chance to show what he’s about as he takes over this young team. However, he will certainly have his work cut out for him in his first year.

The team CJ Stroud will be making his NFL debut against is the hosting, Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are coming off a decent 10-7 season, but that doesn’t tell the full picture. They got off to a great 9-4 start, before their franchise QB Lamar Jackson went down with an injury, and ultimately never returned. Tyler Huntley stepped in at QB but unfortunately was unable to lead them to a playoff win over the Bengals. Lamar is back and healthy, and surrounded by the best receiving corps he’s ever had, with Odell Beckham and Zay Flowers. Also, the Ravens brought in former Georgia OC Todd Monken to be their playcaller this year, so perhaps he will bring some new looks to this offense. Roquan Smith will be entering his first full season as a Raven following last year’s midseason trade from Chicago. He will also be looking to show he is worthy of his brand new 5-year, 100 million dollar extension. The Ravens will have a very favorable home matchup against a young team to kick off their season, and I fully expect them to make it a long day for the Texans with a blowout victory. Bet on Baltimore and enjoy that $200 in bonus bets offer from FanDuel.
