Marshall Football Player Lays Into His Own Fans For Booing During Ugly Loss That Deserved To Be Booed

Marshall College Football Owen Porter Boo

Marshall defensive lineman Owen Porter laid into the Thundering Herd fanbase for boing the team during an ugly college football loss deserving of boos. To say that he was frustrated would be severely understated.

Porter was furious.

Marshall, which moved to 4-3 with the loss to James Madison, played its worst game of the season so far on Thursday night.

It was not necessarily the defense’s fault, which gave up just 20 points total and just three points during the first half.

Much, if not all of the blame can be placed on the offense. The Thundering Herd scored nine points on a safety and a late fourth quarter touchdown. That was it.

The offense totaled only 169 yards — with -4 yards rushing — and converted only 5-of-16 third down attempts. It went 1-of-3 on fourth down. It punted eight times, lost a fumble and threw an interception.

Quarterback Jordan McCloud completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 173 yards and no touchdowns. He was

multiple times and had 12 carries for -66 yards.

Marshall’s leading receiver had four catches for 40 yards. Its leading rusher averaged just 3.1 yards per carry.

All of this goes to say that booing the offense was completely warranted.

Nobody wants to boo their own team. Sometimes it’s going to happen.

College football teams get booed by their own fans when they play poorly.

Thursday was one of those nights. Losing a winnable game by scoring just seven offensive points on less than 200 total yards of offense is a boo-worthy performance. Even if the average starting field position was somewhere around the 10-yard-line all night.

Owen Porter disagrees. He laid into Herd fans after the game.

There will be mixed reactions to Porter’s comments. Some fans will agree that fair weather fans are not true fans. Others will say that it can’t be rainbows and smiles, and that they will boo when boos are deserved.

Either way, the Marshall fanbase was largely unhappy with how the team played on Thursday. Understandably so. The field position wasn’t ideal. Neither is nine points. Boo!
