Oscars Producers Asked Andrew Garfield To Do A Web Sling For The Camera But He Did This Instead

One of the things I enjoy most about celebrities is trying to figure out which ones of them are normal. Once you know what to look for, it’s actually pretty easy to tell.

Andrew Garfield certainly counts as one of Hollywood’s normal ones, as he’s proved time and time again.

Like at last year’s Academy Awards, for example:

The latest example of Garfield’s extreme normal-ism came during Sunday night’s Academy Awards when the broadcast tried to loop him into one of Jimmy Kimmel’s predictably lame gags.

As the show was addressing last year’s incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock, Kimmel joked that his security team included the likes of Michelle Yeoh, a Creed [Michael B. Jordan], a Spider-Man [Garfield], and a “Fabel Man” [Steven Spielberg].

And while most of the actors decided to play along and get into character, Garfield responded with a face that simply said: “Trust me, I wish I wasn’t a part of this either.”

Executive producer Molly McNearney — who also happens to be Jimmy Kimmel’s wife, by the way — apparently liked Garfield’s improvisation, though.

“I went up to Michelle Yeoh, Michael B. Jordan, Pedro Pascal, Andrew Garfield, Steven Spielberg, and we told them minutes before the show started, ‘you’re going to be on camera, Jimmy’s going to refer to you as part of his security team. If you could just show some kind of physical support or give him a fist bump,’” McNearney said.

“They were all game and they were very supportive.” Garfield was asked if he’d do a Spider-Man web sling, but “he made his own choice. Which I think was even better,” she added. [via Variety]

Just a few days after Garfield presented the Oscars for  Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay alongside Florence Pugh, news broke that the pair are set to star in the romantic drama We Live In Time together.
