The New York Knicks entered Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series with the Indiana Pacers trying to rebound off a heartbreaking Game 3 loss that saw them just seconds from a commanding 3-0 lead.
That rebound didn’t happen, though. The Knicks were dominated from essentially the opening tip, and eventually lost 121-89.
The series is tied up at two, and the depleted Knicks will be happy to get back to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.Much of it is not the fault of the Knicks that actually suited up in Indianapolis. The team has been without all-star forward Julius Randle for months now, and he’s out for the season. And, in the first 9 games of the playoffs, the Knicks lost key rotation players in center Mitchell Robinson, wing Bojan Bogdanovic, and two-way monster OG Anunoby. Players like Josh Hart have been forced to play 40+ minutes, and Hart has played all 48 minutes multiple times in the playoffs.
That tiredness seemed to finally show up in game 4. The Pacers led 47-19 just 16 minutes into the game, and the Knicks never made it competitive. Stalwarts Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart were a combined 10-36 from the field. Not a good night for the ‘Nova Boys.
Knicks starting center Isaiah Hartenstein was pretty embarrassed by the Knicks’ performance. Take a look at what he had to say about it afterwards.
Isaiah Hartenstein on returning to MSG for G5: “Nothing is like the Garden. We have to really get back to playing our basketball, coming back to playing for the fans like that. Because the way we played, especially today, was not respectful to the fans and how they support us.” pic.twitter.com/RmZIwr4EHC

I understand his sentiment, but I think most Knicks fans understand that the team is simply shorthanded now. Nobody could watch the Knicks and claim they’re not playing hard. Right now, they simply don’t have enough guys in the rotation.
They’ll look to somehow win Game 5 back in Madison Square Garden Tuesday night.
