The fallout from the Dallas Cowboys’ shocking loss to the Green Bay Packers continues, particularly as it relates to the future of head coach Mike McCarthy.

As for January 17 — three days after Dallas’ embarrassing 48-32 defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers — McCarthy, who has one year left on his contract, has yet to be relieved of his duties.

According to a Cowboys source who spoke to Sports Illustrated, however, McCarthy’s meeting with owner and general manager Jerry Jones this week will be “like a job interview,” and the purpose of a job interview, of course, is to pitch yourself as being worthy of the r0le.

McCarthy’s future won’t be the only in question as quarterback Dak Prescott told the media that if his head coach is on the hot seat then he should be, too.

“He’s been amazing. I don’t know how there can be (speculation) but I understand the business,” Prescott said. “In that case, there should be about me as well, honestly… I understand it’s about winning the Super Bowl. That’s the standard of the league and damn sure the standard of this place. I get it but add me to the list, in that case.”

While the Cowboys have won 12 games for three straight seasons under McCarthy, his record in the postseason in Dallas is 1-3, with the latest loss to the Packers being the most egregious as it made the Cowboys the first #2 seed to lose to a #7 seed since it was introduced in 2020.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Jones was basically too stunned by the result to discuss McCarthy’s future.

“I haven’t thought one second about it. My whole thought process was getting ready for a playoff game here next week. I am amazed to be sitting where we are right now,” Jones told the media on Sunday.

With McCarthy’s contract set to expire at the end of the upcoming 2024 season, speculation about his future will persist until the Cowboys either fire him or sign him to an extension.
