The greatest trick the devil ever pulled isn’t convincing the world he doesn’t exist, it’s somehow convincing tens and tens of millions of us NFL fans that NFL schedule releases are now a cultural event that we look forward to every year with anticipation.

NFL teams could simply announce the schedules on their website but instead there’s an announcement to announce the announcements now.

Literally. The NFL announced a week ahead that they would be announcing their schedules. And then without fail the schedules get released and I’m somehow reminded that I actually like the videos these teams come up with (the Titans killed it two years in a row).

My favorite NFL schedule release this year, however, was not a video. The Indianapolis Colts enlisted ‘Art But Make It Sports’ which is an account active across multiple social media platforms. If you clicked to read this article I’ll assume you know what ArtButMakeItSports is but for the 1% that doesn’t, they pair classical art to stills from modern sports.

I’ll include some of the best instead of including 17 tweets here:

Week 1: The Herd Quitter, by C.M. Russell, 1897.

Week 2: Walt Kuhn (American, 1877–1949), Tricorne, 1939, oil on canvas, The Edwin and Virginia Irwin Memorial, 1957.

Week 4: Lunch atop a Skyscraper, likely Charles C. Ebbets, 1932.

Week 6: Fall of the Titans, by Cornelis van Haarlem, 1588-90.

Week 12: Omnia Vincit Amor, or The Power of Love in the Three Elements, by Benjamin West, 1809.

Week 16: Fall of the Titans, by Jan d. Bisschop, After Giulio Romano, 1665.

I tried my own hand at ‘Art But Make It Sports’ recently after picking up recently rescued 1yo puppy (Great Pyrenees x Anatolian Shepherd) up from doggy daycare:

How’d I do?
