At 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, Ole Miss defensive tackle Tywone Malone is an absolute monster.
The four-star true freshman from Oradell, New Jersey doesn’t just live in the nightmares of opposing quarterbacks, however. He is also a terrifying sight for opposing pitchers.
Malone, a two-sport athlete, committed to the Rebels as part of the Class of 2021 to play both football and baseball. He is not the first athlete to play both sports in Oxford, but he is most certainly the biggest athlete to suit up on the gridiron and the diamond.
After he suffered a knee injury during his senior year of high school, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football took it slow with the No. 11 defensive line prospect in 2021. Although he played in only one game, he made an immediate impact.
With his first football season in the books, Malone turned his attention to baseball for the Spring. Ole Miss is ranked as high as No. 2 in the country and the Rebels’ lineup is absolutely stacked with talent.
As a result, Malone likely will not crack too many starting lineups in his first year. But just like in football, he is making the most of his limited at-bats.
During preseason scrimmages, the massive trench warrior lined up at first base and crushed a 378-foot dinger off of the bat at 106 miles per hour. During his second collegiate regular season at-bat, he went even further.
Malone came in to pinch hit during the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against VCU. With a run rule in effect, the game was set to end if either team took a 10-run lead anytime after the seventh inning.
With a nine-run lead and a runner on base, Malone stepped into the box.
The crowd went absolutely nuts before he took the first pitch for a strike. On the second offering, he sent a 404-foot moonshot over the right-centerfield wall for a walk-off win.
The sound that was made when Malone’s bat connected with the ball is deafening. It could have been heard in Memphis.
