There’s no doubt that the Denver Broncos needed to make a change at head coach. Anyone who watched first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett coach knew that he simply was not cut out for the job at this stage in his career.
He made mistake after mistake this year, and it started in week one with terrible clock management.
They overcame some of his mistakes early in the year, but the Broncos finished 5-12.He was brought in as a quarterback whisperer. But, Russell Wilson, who they sold the farm for, was terrible this year. He completed just 60% of his passes for Denver and threw for only 16 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
So, they had to fire Hackett, which they did before the season was even over..
The Broncos’ coaching search hasn’t gone to plan, though. They’ve struck out on Jim Harbaugh, it seems, multiple times.
Earlier this week, #Broncos owner Greg Penner took a covert visit to Ann Arbor to sit with #Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, a mission that ended without Denver hiring a coach. Another big swing.

They’ve interviewed Sean Peyton, too. And, recently, according to Woody Paige, DeMeco Ryans also said thanks, but no thanks.

But, these constant swings and misses have not dissuaded the Broncos from swinging big, according to a new report.
Ian Rapoport on the Broncos' coaching search:
"Denver does appear to be focused on a big, big, big candidate. So maybe that's taken a little more time, regardless of the head start (they) had."

Who that is, we can’t be sure. Maybe they’re making another run at Harbaugh or Peyton. Or, there is a name we aren’t even considering, like a Ryan Day. But, they better figure it out soon.
