At this point, it’s pretty hard to be shocked by the lengths Elon Musk will go to in order to get his way, which apparently includes rolling up to a recording studio with an antique gun while pressuring the developers of a video game to give him a cameo.
A number of pretty wild anecdotes have surfaced since Walter Isaacson published a biography of the divisive billionaire earlier this month, including one about the time Larry David confronted Musk at a wedding over his political leanings.
The book also includes a story that unfolded when Musk was in a relationship with the singer Grimes, who was believed to be the mother of two of his children (including a son with an unpronounceable name) until she admitted they’d secretly had a third while discussing her former relationship with Isaacson prior to the publication of the biography.
Grimes was involved with Musk when she was tapped to voice Lizzy Wizzy, a futuristic pop star who is a minor character in Cyberpunk 2077, the video game CD Projekt Red has spent years refining since its somewhat rocky release in December of 2020.
According to Kotaku, the singer recounted what unfolded when she was recording some of her lines while the project was in development, as she was apparently in the booth when Musk “showed up at the studio wielding a two-hundred-year-old gun” (which may or may not have been the replica flintlock pistol the tech mogul keeps next to his bed).
Grimes said “The studio guys were, like, sweating” and her former partner admitted, “I told them that I was armed but not dangerous” while informing them why he’d decided to crash the session: he wanted a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077, which was right up his alley thanks to the game’s focus on bioengineering and the brain implants Musk’s Neuralink has been developing.
The book claims the developers agreed to the request, and while a character bearing an uncanny resemblance to Musk does make a brief appearance at the start of the game, the studio claimed it was simply a coincidence when some eagle-eyed fans noticed the similarities.
