On top of carving themselves in the history books for all eternity by winning the first ever World Series title for the Nationals franchise and knowing that they didn’t need to rely on Bryce Harper’s luscious head-of-hair to do it, Nationals players will be rewarded with a fatass bonus just in time for the holiday season.
Major League Baseball just announced the total amounts that were allotted to each of the 10 postseason teams by way of the players pool.
According to MLB.com, the players’ pool is formed from “50 percent of the gate receipts from the Wild Card Games; 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first three games of the Division Series; 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first four games of the League Championship Series; and 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first four games of the World Series.”
This season, that pool ballooned to $80,861,145.74, since the Nats won the Series, their portion is a hefty $29,110,012. Split between 61 players, each will take home a bonus of $382,358.
According to latest U.S. Census Bureau statistics that pins the annual U.S. household income at $61,937, the Nats bonus is over six times that amount.
The Astros, reeling from a World Series loss, will be consoled with a pathetic $256,030 each.
Here are the per player earning for the other playoff teams, via TMZ:
New York Yankees — $114k per player
Tampa Bay Rays — $36k per player
Bryce Harper — $0
The $80 million pot is the 3rd-highest of all time, behind the 2017 and 2018 postseasons.
God damnit I knew I should have really taken tee ball seriously as a kid. Feckin A!
