Texas A&M football defeated a far inferior FCS opponent in College Station on Saturday afternoon. It followed up the win on Sunday by posting on social media with a contextless statistic so dumb that your brain will hurt after finding out the truth.
The Aggies, after beating Abilene Christian, proudly stated that they are undefeated against other Texas schools since 2012.
They have played 17 games against in-state opponents during the span. That is a true note. No lies were told.
However, a large part of the truth did not make its way into the post. Texas A&M has not played Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech or TCU even one time over the last 11 years.
All 17 wins against in-state teams came against Abilene Christian, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas State, UTEP, SMU and UTSA. While the last two programs are pretty solid names in 2023, their games against the Aggies were prior to their resurgences. Even Sam Houston was still an FCS program for one of their two meetings.
Here is a look at the streak:
- Sept. 15, 2012
- 45-point win at SMU
- The Mustangs went 7-6 that year.
- Nov. 17, 2012
- 19-point win vs. Sam Houston State
- Aug. 31, 2013
- 21-point win vs. Rice
- Sept. 7, 2013
- 37-point win vs. Sam Houston State
- Sept. 21, 2013
- 29-point win vs. SMU
- The Mustangs went 5-7 that year.
- Nov. 2, 2013
- 50-point win vs. UTEP
- Sept. 6, 2014
- 70-point win vs. Lamar
- Sept. 13, 2014
- 28-point win vs. Rice
- Sept. 20, 2014
- 52-point win at SMU
- The Mustangs went 1-11 that year.
- Sept. 10, 2016
- 67-point win vs. Prairie View A&M
- Nov. 19, 2016
- 13-point win vs. UTSA
- The Roadrunners went 6-7 that year.
- Aug. 29, 2019
- 34-point win vs. Texas State
- Sept. 14, 2019

- Sept. 3, 2022
- 31-point win vs. Sam Houston State
- Nov. 18, 2023
- 28-point win vs. Abilene Christian
Here is how it breaks down by school:
- Two wins over UTSA
- One win over UTEP
- One win over Texas State
- Two wins over SMU (before they were good)
- Three wins over Sam Houston State
- Two wins over Lamar
- Three wins over Prairie View A&M
- Two wins over Rice
- One win over Abilene Christian
Whooooooooooooooooooop de doo!
Now, before Texas A&M fans get their panties in a wad, they want you to know that it isn’t their fault. Texas reportedly encouraged other Big 12 schools not to schedule the Aggies.
Doesn’t matter. To brag about a 17-0 record against in-state college football programs without playing any of the four biggest players is ridiculous. As could be expected, Texas A&M got flambéed in the replies.
