After weeks of watching the league’s top receivers having money thrown at them by NFL organizations, it seems one of the guys throwing them the ball has finally gotten himself in on the action.
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Derek Carr has secured a massive contract extension for himself to stay with the las Vegas Raiders through the 2025 season.
The #Raiders and star QB Derek Carr have agreed to terms on a 3-year contract extension worth $121.5M, source said. The agreement ties Carr to Las Vegas through the 2025 season. He is already the longest tenured QB in the AFC.

This contract is a big gamble for the Raiders. The AFC West became undoubtedly the NFL’s toughest division this offseason and the Raiders need to do everything in their power to keep up with the rest of the division.
It seems the Raiders have decided that Derek Carr is the quarterback that will allow them to do it. This contract will move Carr well inside the top 10 for yearly pay. Now he needs to prove that he’s worth the money as he is viewed by many as the 4th best quarterback in his own division.
However, if there was ever a time for him to change that perception, it would be this coming season. Carr is coming off of one of the best seasons of his career and led the Raiders to the playoffs in spite of a ton of chaos surrounding the organization.
Now the Raiders have added the league’s best wide receiver, who happens to have been one of Carr’s college teammates, to their arsenal to give Carr the best group of pass catchers he’s ever had.
The Raiders took a big risk with the contract, but if Carr can keep this team afloat in a loaded division then he just might be worth it.
