It is all-but official that Caleb Williams is headed to the University of Southern California.
The Trojans received a commitment on Saturday afternoon that is considered to be a clear indication that the former Oklahoma quarterback will be playing in Cardinal and Gold in 2022.At the end of the regular season, despite speculation that he might be linked to the LSU job, Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley left Norman for the same role at USC. Immediately after his announcement, chatter began around Williams joining him.
However, at the time, the true freshman chose to stick it out with his time. Williams started for Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl and new head coach Brent Venables indicated that he would be sticking around despite the staff turnover.
He was wrong.
On January 3rd, Williams entered the transfer portal. He was linked to USC, UCLA, Ole Miss and Georgia.
One day later, his teammate at Oklahoma also entered the transfer portal. Mario Williams, a former four-star, fourth-ranked wide receiver recruit, was a true freshman in Norman last season. He has no relation to Caleb, other than being family through football.
With that being said, Mario indicated that wherever Caleb Williams was going, he wanted to follow.
Thus, Mario appeared to become the first college football player to blindly enter the transfer portal to follow a quarterback. Wherever Caleb Williams was to go, Mario Williams was to follow.
Well, Mario committed to USC on Saturday with an awesome video.
The team announced his signing shortly thereafter.
Mario was recruited by Riley at Oklahoma, so the jump made sense. It also means that Caleb’s commitment is soon to follow.
Per sources, the two of them signed together over the weekend. The Trojans have yet to announce Caleb’s commitment.
Based on a new leaked photo, the commitment video is in the works. Give it a day or two, but Caleb Williams is set to throw Mario Williams the ball at USC in 2022.
