MLB legend Mo Vaughn reminded the world he’s still an absolute unit on Wednesday morning when he shared a photo holding up a huge cobia he caught fishing off Boca Raton in South Florida.
The 3-time MLB All Star and member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame has stayed very busy in recent years training the next generation of baseball stars with his Vaughn Sports Academy.
He obviously practices what he’s preaching because ‘The Hit Dog’ Mo Vaughn still looks like an absolute unit holding up this cobia he just caught.A solid day of fishing:
Blackened cobia is one of the tastiest fish that can go from hook-to-table in Florida. Cobia received an ‘honorable mention’ in my list of the 25 Best Tasting Fish in the World a few years back, an article that I still receive hate mail ever couple of months about due to my distaste for salmon.
When he’s not coaching/mentoring, he’s fishing off Boca Raton which is one of my favorite places to go offshore in Florida because of how close the Gulf Stream is and how quickly the water gets deep. I caught my first sailfish out of Lighthouse Point just south of there and have fished a few tournaments.
Mo Vaugn also caught a sailfish out of Boynton Beach (just north) last year:
He also recently caught this kingfish and barracuda fishing out of Boca:
The 1995 AL MVP definitely appears to use fishing as an escape from baseball to help reset. Everyone who throws themselves 100% into something (like professional athletes do) need an escape and as a born-and-raised Floridian and lifelong fisherman, I cannot recommend fishing enough as an escape.
