Ricky Williams was an absolutely electric running back in his peak years with the Texas Longhorns and Miami Dolphins. Williams’ NFL career was famously cut short due in large part to his love of marijuana but the football world would love to see him back in the mix at some point.
Recently asked about the potential of coaching, the 46-year-old made some bold claims. He spoke with the Momentum Podcast and claimed that if he did take the head coach position at a school, regardless of the program size, the impact would be greater than the ‘Deion Effect’ and he Ricky Williams believes he’d be a better coach than Deion because Ricky is an astrologist.
‘The Best Coach I Ever Had Was Me Coaching Myself’ — Ricky Williams
Williams did admit he’s coached before, saying:
“I coached running backs for one year at a small college in San Antonio (U. of the Incarnate Word). And I worked with those kids and they broke records. Because you know to me I had good coaches but the best coach I ever had was me coaching myself. And I just use the same general techniques that I used to get the best out of myself to get the best out of the kids that I coached.”
Obviously, he has a high opinion of himself and of his success. The 1998 Heisman Trophy winner and 2002 First-Team All Pro running back then discussed how he’d compared to Colorado’s Deion Sanders, saying:
“It’d be bigger than Deion effect. Even if a smaller school offered me. Because again when I say ‘better than Deion’ or ‘different than Deion’, it’s because I am an astrologer. So when I’m coaching these kids, I’m not just looking at what I see with my eyes, I’m looking at something deeper. And I’ll be able to access and tap into deeper levels of motivation and skill development than others cause I have that added level of clarity.”
It’s worth mentioning that this has to be the first time in history a Heisman Winner claims they’d be better than another Heisman Winner because of Astrology. We’ve got a Texas Longhorns legend out here talking about how he’d out coach Deion Sanders and how he’d be bigger than the so-called ‘Deion Effect’ because of Astrology.
More practically, it would be great to see Ricky Williams join Deion Sanders’ staff in Colorado for a few seasons. Colorado was the first state in the nation to legalize marijuana recreationally, if that’s still important to Ricky. And he’d be able to flex his recruiting acumen and prowess alongside Coach Prime.
And if Williams truly believes he could have a greater impact on College Football than Deion Sanders then he needs to get started. The man is 46-years-old and not getting any younger.
