It’s always funny when a comedy skit plays out in real life and that’s exactly what happened at the ACC Tournament on Friday. The handshake line between Duke and Miami played out exactly like a famous Key & Peele skit from 2014.
In the original skit, which satirizes ‘code-switching,’ Jordan Peele portrays President Obama at a meet and greet. After making a speech to the crowd, he goes out and shakes the hands of those in the audience.
White attendees get a polite, cordial handshake, while black attendees get dapped up, passionate hugs and slaps on the back. The behavior in which he carries himself with the two groups of people in the audience is hilarious.
On Friday night, the same thing happened in real life. This time, instead of Peele portraying President Obama, Miami’s sixth-year redshirt senior guard Charlie Moore starred as himself.
Duke beat the Hurricanes by four, effectively ending their run at the ACC Tournament. After the game, as is tradition, the two teams lined up at half court and shook hands.
As Moore went down the line of Blue Devils, like Peele as President Obama, he gave white Duke players a polite, cordial handshake. Black Blue Devils, however, were dapped up and some of them even got a bro-hug.
