Everyone has been waiting to see the first Tom Ford luxury watch ever since the designer announced one was on the way. That initial announcement came in January 2017, so the watch world has been left waiting for quite some time…until now.
The initial Tom Ford 001 Collection was debuted at his fashion show back in February but only VIPs were able to catch a glimpse of them then.
Now, the Tom Ford 001 Collection is up on the Tom Ford website with a landing page and details about the collection. We haven’t been told a specific date for when Tom Ford’s first ever luxury watch will be available for purchase, all we have to go on is the ‘coming soon’ that’s listed on their website.According to ELLE, the Tom Ford 001 is a unisex watch that will range in price between $2,190 to $10,000 based on how the watch is configured. The watch is Swiss-made and it was built/designed in partnership with Bedrock Manufacturing Company, the company which owns Filson and Shinola.
The watch face is a rectangular design that comes with four finishes: yellow gold, brushed stainless steel, polished stainless steel, and matte stainless steel. The watch strap will also come in four different types of leather (and multiple colors): braided leather, alligator leather, calf leather, and pebble leather. I mentioned Filson and Shinola earlier because these are two companies in America renowned for their leather products. In total, there will be 62 strap options and 30 shades of leather available for purchase.
This is the first ever watch from Tom Ford so people are naturally curious if this means more styles and designs are coming down the pipeline. WWD interviewed Tom Ford back in February at his fashion show about the watch and asked him if the world can expect more Tom Ford watches, here’s what he had to say:
T.F.: It’s a single watch design. Right now, it comes in two different sizes and in different finishes and different colored faces. But it is a watch; it is the Tom Ford watch. This watch has given me the vocabulary to now do another one, but it isn’t like I’m going to have 50 watches. I may ultimately have five models.
Great watch brands, which is, of course, what I’m aspiring to be — Hermès has what, five, six, seven models? Rolex, they have very few but they’ve done an incredible amount of business; Cartier the same. I’m not competing with Cartier and Rolex; that’s a much higher price point. I would say I’m more directly competing with the price point and the target customer of an Hermès watch. I’m very excited about it because it’s a very simple concept that no one has ever done, and is, as far as I can tell, nowhere in the market. It’s something I have wanted for years, and never understood why somebody didn’t do it. (via)
So while it sounds like there will be more luxury watches from Tom Ford in the future it appears as if this is the bedrock design which all future designs will build off of. So if you’re like me and you dig this style which reminds me of classic Cartier timepieces then you’ll probably look forward to future Tom Ford designs.
