Next ‘Fast’ Movie Will Apparently Come Full Circle And Be More Grounded Like The First Film

The Fast and Furious franchise may be going back to basics, if such a thing is even possible for these famously absurd blockbuster films.

According to a report from an alleged industry insider, Fast X: Part 2 (incredible title, of course) will be a “throwback” to the first movie in the franchise “with a trimmed budget and fewer major locations.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Universal possibly approaches Fast X with the proverbial “grounded and gritty” approach, especially when considering that the closing moments of Fast X featured Vin Diesel and his son escaping the massive destruction of a dam in his flying Dodge Charger.

As for why Universal Pictures seems to be suddenly changing that Fast formula, it could be due to the box office returns of Fast X, which was the lowest-grossing film at the domestic box office in the franchise since 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

In addition to the returning Fast X cast, Part Two will also see the return of Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot to the franchise, as the pair both made surprise appearances at the end of the 2023 film.

Alongside Vin Diesel — who was the recent subject of some sexual battery accusations from an ex-assistant — Fast X also starred Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron.

Fast X: Part 2 will be the 12th film in the franchise, which began in 2001 in the David Ayer-written film The Fast and the Furious. At this time, Fast X: Part 2 is scheduled to be released in movie theaters on Friday, April 4, 2025.
