Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni does not care about what other people (outside of his own players and assistant coaches, maybe) think about him. The 42-year-old always speaks his mind.
That also applies to people he meets on the street— even New York Giants fans.
Given that Philly and NYC are so close, with New Jersey hovering right in between, there is a large crossover between Jets, Giants and Eagles.
Even in Philadelphia proper.Of course, the G Men and Birds are huge rivals. The fans hate each other. Each team wants to beat the other even more than they do any other team. It’s pretty intense!
As such, New York fans take every opportunity to jab at Sirianni when they encounter him in the wild.
Most of the time, the Eagles’ head coach lets it go. They might say “go Giants” or give him a “boooo.”
If Sirianni is in the mood and has the time, he will jab back. Especially this year, after a major offseason move. His response to the heckling has quickly become centered around Saquon Barkley.
Giants fans are super salty about their rival head coach’s jeer. They are furious that Barkley left and refuse to admit that he was their best player. (Admittedly, there is a point to be made there!)
In response to Sirianni’s press conference, New Yorkers are asking two hypothetical questions:
- When did the Eagles get Andrew Thomas?
- When did the Eagles get Dexter Lawrence?
Their belief is that Barkley was not as good as their best offensive or defensive lineman. Considering each of the three players’ careers over the last few years, they actually might be right. Lawrence and Thomas are probably more crucial to success than Barkley.
Still, though, that is such a butthurt response. Nick Sirianni clearly lives rent-free in their heads if they are upset enough to respond in such a manner. If that wasn’t true, Giants fans simply wouldn’t respond!
